Botanic Garden Master Plan draft available for download

The Future of the Garden Committee has worked diligently to prepare a Master Plan for the Botanic Garden. The committee members understand how important it is to have a beautiful garden in the central city for everyone to enjoy. These supporters recognize the importance of protecting and enhancing this wonderful green space and landmark. The Botanic Garden Master Plan embraces the key ideas and themes that were expressed throughout the planning process and received unanimous approval of the Committee.

At the Feb. 24, 2010, work session presentation before the Parks and Community Services Board, the following suggestions were made by Board members.

Add comments that reference the recently completed Fort Worth Bicycle Master Plan and that encourages visitors to access the Garden on bikes or as pedestrians.

Delete the last sentence on page 62.

Add the comment: “The Fort Worth Botanical Society Endowment Fund has been established to benefit the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Gifts are invested to provide income for general operating support to the areas of the Garden where the need is the greatest.”

Board members also asked if the plan or committee recommended an entry fee.

Check out the future of Riverside Park

Help create a new master plan for Riverside Park at a planning meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. March 23 at Fort Worth Harvest Church, 620 N. Chandler Drive.

Check out the future of Riverside Park

Residents are urged to provide input to help create a new master plan for Riverside Park, 501 Oakhurst Scenic Drive. At an upcoming meeting, residents can discuss and help determine recreational features that would be most desirable to the community.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. March 23 at Fort Worth Harvest Church, 620 N. Chandler Drive. A Spanish interpreter will be available.

Several options are being considered by the community for the future of Riverside Park. The options range from providing more active uses, such as soccer and softball fields, to more passive uses such as fishing and wildflower viewing.

Additionally, providing flood storage in Riverside Park by excavating certain areas — a result of the Trinity River Vision project — is an option that is being considered. This option, if pursued, would have the benefit of unleashing federal resources for improving Riverside Park.

For more information about the Riverside Park Master Plan process, contact Randle Harwood, director of program management, at 817-392-6101 or Mark Rauscher, Trinity River Vision director, at 817-392-2446.
